Margaret Bateman

Margaret Bateman practises in:

administrative law
including:
- migration work,
- Security Industry Act work, and
- taxation matters,
contractual disputes
including in respect of Solicitor's liens, for example, obtaining orders that:
- funds be held on trust to secure the former Solicitor's fees, or
- a charge over real estate be given for that same purpose,
criminal law
including:
- defence of Customs Act and Commerce (Trade Descriptions) Act prosecutions,
- defence of Occupational Health and Safety Act prosecutions,
- penalties, and
- costs in criminal matters,
equity
including:
- express trust arguments, and
- constructive trust arguments,
family law
including:
- — divorce,
- — financial matters (married and de facto), including:
  seeking leave to re-open a party's case for the purpose of adducing further evidence where there has not been full and frank disclosure of financial material by the opponent party,
- — parenting matters, including:
  obtaining orders for an expert to report on alleged sexual behaviour between children, and
  appearing as independent children's lawyer, and
  — in the appellate jurisdiction.

including:
- abuse of process and
- want of prosecution arguments.

Margaret Bateman was called to the Bar in 1994.

Margaret holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Laws, a Graduate Diploma in Laws specialising in International Law and a Certificate in Information Technology.
